Reuben’s newborn baby photography

The De Beer family is old clients of mine. I have been their newborn photographer before, I met them when I photographed Kadine five years ago, doing her newborn photography.

Kadine has grown up to be such an awesome young (very talkative) lady.  She is going to be the best big sister ever to her brother Reuben.

Claudia has been in touch through the years, sending friends and colleagues to me.

But this time she was booking for son.

Little Reuben was an absolute star.  Only just a few days new, he slept right though his first photo shoot.

And yes that makes me amazingly happy, when parents vistit within the first ten days of babies live, shoots usually goes smoothly.  Usually not always 😉

Tips for the perfect shoot – getting perfect newborn photography

Tip 1

For studio photography the ideal age is for a newborn baby is between 5-12 days. When babies are this new and still so tiny they spend a lot of time sleeping and still curl up into  sweet poses similar to the positions they were in when they were in the womb.

After about two weeks babies go through a growth spurt and they will start stretching their arms and legs and will not be as amenable to curling up for a picture or sleeping as soundly, which is needed for some of the poses and photographs in props like the buckets. They also don’t sleep as much as they did in their first couple of days.
