Becoming parents is such a special chapter — and for Barbara and her husband Chisomo, this chapter had an extra layer of excitement. All the way from Malawi, Barbara came to Pretoria at 34 weeks pregnant to prepare for the arrival of their baby. Chisomo joined her for the last part of the pregnancy, and together they wanted to capture this season in a timeless, elegant way before their little one made their grand entrance.
In this post, I’m sharing a full maternity session, so you can see what a typical experience at my Pretoria studio looks like — from flowing gowns and romantic couple portraits, to classic silhouettes and creative lighting. ?
If you’ve ever wondered what a maternity shoot really looks like from start to finish, this is the perfect example.
Silhouette maternity portraits are timeless — they highlight the beautiful curve of your bump in the most elegant way. We started Barbara’s session with a series of black & white silhouette images, followed by stunning solo portraits in a dramatic black maternity gown.
These shots are perfect for capturing that sense of strength and serenity that comes with late pregnancy.
Including your partner in the maternity session adds so much warmth and emotion to the gallery. Barbara and Chisomo’s connection was beautiful — romantic, joyful, and full of excitement for what’s ahead.
I always encourage partners to join in. Whether it’s elegant poses or natural candid moments, these images tell your family’s story.
One of the standout looks from this session was the vibrant yellow gown, which brought so much energy and light to the shoot. We played with movement, swirling fabric, and soft studio light to create portraits that are both glamorous and full of life.
To finish off the session, Barbara changed into a soft pink gown — a romantic, delicate look that’s perfect for capturing those dreamy final weeks of pregnancy. These images combined gentle posing, playful fabric tosses, and a bit of sparkle to create a magical set of portraits.
Here’s the complete gallery from Barbara’s maternity session. From classic to creative, this shoot is the perfect example of the variety we can create together during your maternity photoshoot in Pretoria.
