Baby Aliyah’s Newborn Photoshoot Journey
Newborn photoshoots are often best when done in the first two weeks of life, but sometimes life doesn’t go as planned. When Gerhard called me, asking for an urgent photoshoot for his 4-week-old daughter Aliyah, I knew we’d need to adapt. Many photographers shy away from sessions with babies older than two weeks, but at my studio, we embrace the idea that life happens—and it’s never too late to capture those magical moments.
We scheduled Aliyah’s session for the very next week, and although I reminded the parents that older babies might not sleep as much (or at all), we’d do our best to create beautiful photos. Well, Aliyah had a little surprise for us—she started out awake, giving us the most adorable eye contact shots, and then the magic happened. After a few moments, she peacefully fell asleep, and we ended up with an incredible set of dreamy, sleepy newborn photos. ??
Aliyah’s parents chose soft pink and baby blue tones for the props, creating a serene and timeless feel for the session. It was the perfect backdrop for capturing her sweet moments, and I couldn’t be happier with the results.
Why Newborn Photoshoots Are Important, Even If You’re Late
Newborn photos are something you’ll treasure forever. They capture the very first moments of your baby’s life, and those first weeks fly by so quickly. While it’s ideal to do these photoshoots within the first two weeks, it’s never too late to document your baby’s early days.
Although older babies may be more alert and less likely to sleep during the shoot, there are still so many opportunities to capture precious moments—whether it’s their curious eyes, sweet expressions, or cozy sleep. With Aliyah, we got both—the best of both worlds!
I always remind parents that even if you don’t feel photo-ready, these photos are about your baby and the love surrounding them. Every moment is worth capturing.
