Turning two is such a fun milestone. At this age, toddlers are full of personality, energy, and a strong sense of independence. But let’s be honest — they don’t sit still! Photographing a two-year-old is very different from photographing a newborn or even a one-year-old cake smash. Short attention spans, boundless curiosity, and a love for running around make these sessions lively, unpredictable, and absolutely worth it.
For Siphephelo’s big day, we started with classic family portraits in denim outfits — timeless and stylish. After that, it was all about fun! His cake smash setup was filled with balloons, greenery, and pops of silver, making it perfect for celebrating his second birthday.
Like most two-year-olds, Siphephelo wasn’t interested in sitting still for too long. Instead, he explored, played, and got messy — which is exactly how it should be at this age. Confetti, balloons, and cake crumbs ended up everywhere. By the end of the session, the studio was filled with laughter… and glitter!
Many families are surprised at how much work goes into a cake smash session. The setup alone takes about 2 hours, and cleaning up afterward can take another 1–2.5 hours. Add to that the actual photoshoot (which usually lasts an hour or more with toddlers who love to run) plus the editing process, and you can see why cake smashes are such a big production.
It’s messy. It’s unpredictable. And it’s worth every second for the memories created.
