Baby Only Newborn Photoshoot in Pretoria: What Parents Need to Know Before Booking

baby only newborn photoshoot pretoria015jenna d photography

A baby only newborn photoshoot Pretoria session is perfect if you want the focus to be completely on your new baby.

Tiny toes. Sleepy stretches. Wrapped poses. Little yawns. All the soft newborn details that change before you even realise it.

But before you book, it is important to understand what “baby only” really means.

At Jenna D Photography, a baby only newborn session is exactly that: baby only. Parents and siblings are not included in this package.

If you want photos with baby, whether that is baby with mom, baby with mom and dad, or baby with parents and siblings, then the baby and family newborn package is the right option to book from the start.

This helps avoid confusion later and makes sure your session is planned properly from the beginning.

What Is a Baby Only Newborn Photoshoot?

A baby only newborn photoshoot is a session focused completely on your newborn baby.

There are no parent photos.
There are no sibling photos.
There are no family group photos.

The whole session is planned around beautiful newborn portraits of your baby.

This can include wrapped images, outfit images, prop setups, basket poses, close up details and simple timeless baby portraits.

The goal is to keep everything calm, focused and simple. Your baby is the star of the session.

Baby Only vs Baby and Family Newborn Sessions

Not all newborn sessions are planned the same way.

This is where many parents get confused, so let’s make it simple.

Baby Only Newborn Session

A baby only newborn session includes baby portraits only.

This is best if you want a beautiful gallery of your newborn baby without parent or sibling photos. It works well for parents who want a shorter, simpler session and who are happy for the full focus to be on baby.

At Jenna D Photography, the baby only options are planned specifically for baby portraits, wrapped poses and newborn setups.

Baby and Family Newborn Session

A baby and family newborn session includes baby with family.

This can mean:

Baby with mom
Baby with mom and dad
Baby with mom, dad and siblings

This is the package to book if you want family portraits included.

Even if you only want “one or two photos with mom”, that still falls under the baby and family session. The setup, timing and workflow are different when family photos are included.

A baby only session is not just a shorter family session. It is planned differently from the start.

Why Family Photos Cannot Be Added Casually on the Day

This is one of the most important things to understand before booking.

When I prepare for a baby only newborn session, the session flow is built around baby alone. The studio setup, room temperature, posing order, wraps, props and timing are all planned for newborn portraits.

When I prepare for a baby and family session, I plan very differently.

There is time allowed for parent posing, sibling settling, family combinations, outfit guidance, spacing, lighting and a completely different flow.

That is why family photos cannot simply be added on the day as a quick extra.

It may feel like “just one photo”, but behind the scenes it changes the whole session.

So if you know you would like to be in the photos with baby, please choose the baby and family newborn package when booking.

Is a Baby Only Newborn Photoshoot Right for You?

A baby only newborn session can be a lovely choice for many families.

It may be right for you if:

You want the whole session focused on baby
You do not want parent or sibling photos
You prefer a simpler newborn session
You want beautiful baby portraits without a full family session
You are happy for the gallery to be all about your newborn

There is absolutely nothing wrong with choosing baby only.

Some parents love the simplicity of it. Some parents know they do not want to be photographed so soon after birth. Some parents want to save family photos for a milestone session later.

The important thing is choosing the package that matches what you actually want.

When Should You Book Your Newborn Photoshoot?

The best time to book your newborn photographer is while you are still pregnant, ideally during your second trimester.

Newborn sessions are usually photographed in the first few weeks after birth. The ideal window is around 4 to 14 days old, when babies are still sleepy, curly and easier to settle into those classic newborn poses.

But please do not panic if your baby is already older.

Older newborns can still be photographed beautifully. The session may include more awake images, more wrapped setups or slightly different posing, but those photos can still be incredibly special.

How to Prepare for a Baby Only Newborn Session

A little preparation helps the session feel calmer for everyone.

Before you leave home, try to give baby a good full feed. A full baby is usually a calmer, sleepier baby.

Dress baby in something easy to remove, like a loose babygrow that opens in the front. Avoid anything tight that may leave marks on baby’s skin. Also avoid clothing that has to be pulled over baby’s head, if possible.

If you are bottle feeding, bring more milk than you think you will need. The studio is warm for baby’s comfort, and many newborns feed more often during their session than they usually do at home.

Please also bring:

Nappies
Wipes
Extra milk or formula, if needed
A dummy, even if baby only sometimes takes one
A receiving blanket

You do not need to bring props, outfits, wraps or blankets for the photos. The studio is already prepared with everything needed for a calm and styled newborn session.

What Happens During the Session?

A newborn session is slow and baby led.

That means I follow your baby’s cues. If baby needs feeding, we feed. If baby needs burping, we pause. If baby needs a little extra settling, that is part of the process.

Nothing is rushed.

For a baby only newborn photoshoot, we usually focus on wrapped poses, outfit images, prop setups and close up details.

The room is kept warm and comfortable because newborns settle better when they are cosy. This is also why babies often feed more during a session. It is normal and expected.

Your job is not to stress or perform. You can sit back, relax and let me work gently with your baby.

What Will Your Final Gallery Include?

Your final number of images depends on the newborn collection you book.

After your session, you will receive an online ordering gallery where you can choose your included images. If you fall in love with more photos, you can also add extra digital images or printed products.

This makes the process simple.

You do not need to come back to the studio to choose your photos. You can view your gallery online, choose your favourites and decide what you would like to keep.

The gallery may include a mix of:

Wrapped newborn portraits
Outfit images
Prop setups
Sleepy close ups
Simple timeless baby portraits

The exact flow always depends on your baby. Some babies sleep deeply. Some babies are more awake. Some love being wrapped. Some need more feeds and cuddles.

That is all normal.

The session is built around your baby, not the other way around.

Can I Add One or Two Photos With Mom?

No, not to a baby only newborn session.

I know this can feel like a small request, but it changes the session that was booked.

If you would like photos with baby, even if it is only baby with mom, the baby and family package is the correct package to choose.

This keeps everything fair for all clients and also allows me to prepare properly for the session you actually want.

Baby only really means baby only.
