When to Book Your Newborn Photographer in Pretoria (And Why It Matters More Than You Think)

You’ve just seen those two lines on the test. Your heart is full, your mind is racing, and your to-do list is growing by the day.

Booking a newborn photographer in Pretoria is probably not the first thing on your mind right now. But it really should be near the top of that list and here’s why.

When to Book Your Newborn Photographer in Pretoria

The answer most photographers will give you is: **as soon as you know your due date.** That usually means booking around 12 to 20 weeks pregnant. Some photographers, especially those who are fully booked, fill their calendars even earlier than that.

Here’s the reality: a good newborn photographer in Pretoria only takes a limited number of sessions each month. This isn’t about being exclusive. It’s about being present. A photographer who is overbooked is a photographer who is rushed. And rushed newborn sessions don’t produce the calm, beautiful images you’re dreaming of.

When you book early, you’re not just securing a date. You’re securing peace of mind.

The Newborn Window Is Tiny

Newborn photography captures your baby in those first sleepy, curled-up, brand-new days. Most sessions happen between 5 and 14 days old. That’s the sweet spot and when babies are still sleepy enough to pose naturally and small enough to fit in all those gorgeous wraps and props.

After two weeks, that window starts to close quickly. Babies wake up more. They stretch out. They lose that brand-new look that you’ll want to remember forever.

So the photos themselves only happen for about 14 days. But the planning needs to happen much earlier.

What Happens If You Wait?

Many moms contact me when they’re 36 or 38 weeks along. Sometimes I have availability and I’m so glad when I do. But sometimes I’m fully booked, and I have to send that email that no expecting mom wants to receive.

It breaks my heart a little every time. Because I know that the session can’t be rescheduled. Your baby is only this tiny once.

How the Booking Process Works

When you book early, here’s what happens on my end:

You hold your spot with a small booking deposit. Your due date goes into my calendar. I keep your preferred week flexible and adjust when baby actually arrives and because babies have their own timeline, and that’s completely okay.

We chat about your vision, your nursery colours, any siblings you want included, and any special details that make your family yours.

Then when your little one arrives, you simply let me know. We confirm the session date and you come to my warm, calm studio in Waverley, Pretoria and ready to relax.

A Note for Moms Who Are Already 30+ Weeks

Please still reach out. I do my best to accommodate late inquiries whenever I can. Send me a message and let’s see what we can make work. You deserve beautiful photos of this season, no matter when you find me.

The Bottom Line

Newborn photography is one of the most time-sensitive things you’ll ever book. Unlike a birthday venue or a holiday photographer, the session has to happen within a very specific window, and that window won’t wait.

Booking early isn’t about being organised for its own sake. It’s about protecting your ability to have these photos at all.
