7 Nursery Schools in Centurion for Local Families Comparing Options

Looking for nursery schools in Centurion can feel like a very grown-up decision for such a tiny person.

One minute you are packing nappies and snacks. The next minute, you are asking about school readiness, daily programmes, class sizes and whether your child will learn to sit still long enough to eat their sandwich.

This guide is here to help you start your search. It is not a personal recommendation or ranking. Please contact each school directly, book a visit and ask the questions that matter to your family.

A Note From Jenna

I have been photographing Centurion families for over 17 years, and I am a parent myself. One of the things I love most about this work is that I get to meet families right at the beginning of things — new babies, first birthdays, first big milestones. And one of the questions I hear from parents at almost every single session is some version of: “Do you know anything about schools around here?” So I started writing these guides. Not because I am a school expert, but because I know Centurion, I know the suburbs, and I know how much easier it is to start your search when someone has done a little of the groundwork for you.

What Makes a Nursery School Different From a Daycare?

A daycare often focuses on care during the day. A nursery school usually includes more early learning and school readiness.

For many parents, the nursery school years are about learning routines, making friends, emotional and language development, fine and gross motor skills, learning through play, and getting ready for Grade R.

A good nursery school should still feel warm and safe. Little children are not tiny office workers. They need play, naps, cuddles, patience and someone who understands that shoelaces can, in fact, be a whole crisis.

Please note: Details such as ages, fees, school hours, grade groups and availability can change. Always contact each nursery school directly to confirm current information, book a visit and ask your own questions before enrolling your child.

Questions to Ask Before Choosing a Nursery School

When you visit, ask practical questions that match your real life.

  • What is included in the fees?
  • Are meals included?
  • How do they handle potty training?
  • Do children nap?
  • What happens if your child struggles to settle?
  • How do they communicate with parents during the day?
  • Do they send photos or updates?
  • What is the teacher-to-child ratio?
  • What does a normal day look like?
  • Are they open during school holidays?
  • What happens if my child is sick?

Also look at the feeling of the school. Do the children seem relaxed? Are the teachers warm? Does the space feel safe? Can you picture your child there? Sometimes that tells you more than a brochure.

How to Shortlist Nursery Schools in Centurion

Once you have a few options, try to compare them in a way that fits your real life. Look at:

  • how close the nursery school is to home or work
  • whether the school hours fit your routine
  • whether they offer baby care, toddler care, preschool or Grade R
  • whether meals are included
  • how they handle naps and potty training
  • how they help children settle at drop-off
  • how much outdoor play children get
  • how they communicate with parents
  • whether the environment feels warm, safe and organised

For many families, the right nursery school is not only about academics. It is also about routine, emotional safety, location and whether your child will feel comfortable there.

From Newborn to Nursery School — The Years Go Fast

The families I photograph in my Centurion studio often find me right at the start of the parenting journey — during pregnancy, or with a brand-new baby in arms. And then I blink and they are back for a cake smash, and then a milestone session, and suddenly that tiny baby is starting school.

If you are still in the pregnancy or newborn stage and looking for a photographer who knows what those early months actually feel like, you can read more about my newborn photography sessions for Centurion families.
